Not the wordy type? Tip about the length of your podcast

microphone

I know a lot of you aren’t that talkative. Now if you are talkative, this post might not apply to you. Don’t let the fact that you aren’t a talker keep you from recording a podcast. It is actually better to record a shorter podcast than a longer one. A podcast should be no longer than 30 minutes. The reason is that you actually want people to listen to and act on the information you are sharing with them.

A lot of people like to download podcasts and listen to them while they are working out or on the train. If your podcast is too long, your listener won’t be able to listen to it in one sitting.  So what are you waiting for?  Stop reading this blog and start recording your podcast!

Article: Why You Should Have More Than One Blog

Today I decided to share an article I wrote about having a duplicate blog. Enjoy…

Why You Should Have More Than One Blog – When a Duplicate Blog Makes Sense
By DeAnna Troupe

I know it seems like a lot of work to maintain one blog. However, you might want to consider having more than one blog. What would happen if your main blog was to die for some reason? What would happen if your hosting company had to shut down for maintenance? How would you communicate with your readers? Here are some more reasons why you should have more than one blog.

If you have more than one blog, you have somewhere to keep your content in case your other blog dies. I know you are a smart cookie that backs your blog up daily. However, if something happens and you can’t back your main blog up, a duplicate blog will be a godsend for you when you go to restore your blog.

If you have a duplicate blog, you can communicate with your readers while your main blog is down. This is the most important reason to have a backup blog. You don’t want to alienate your readers. Having a back up blog gives you a platform to communicate with your readers while you are fixing your main blog.

Blogging is all about connecting with your readers. When your blog is down, you miss out on the opportunity to connect with your readers. Having a duplicate blog makes it so that you have a second place to connect with your readers while you work to fix the catastrophe of having a sick blog. Hang in there, be patient. I know things seem bad, but things will be back to normal before you know it.

Events This Week

Yep, it’s Monday again. Time for my weekly update about what events are happening online and offline. Don’t see your event here? That’s because I don’t know about it. If you’re having a business related event this week, leave it in the comment section. Be sure to mention if this is an event that repeats so I can add it to my weekly list of events.

On with the event listing:
Journchat-This chat happens via twitter every week. This chat is for journalists, bloggers, and public relations professionals. The main purpose of this chat is to provide a platform for the people that report on the news to have an open dialog with each other. The chat takes place every Monday from 7 PM to 10 PM (CST) via twitter. This is a fast moving chat so I suggest you use tweetchat to help you follow the conversation. Also if you are a journalism student, you should add this to your routine. You’ll learn a lot of “real world” stuff in this chat that you may not learn in your college classes.  More information can be found here:  http://www.journchat.info

#GNO-This stands for Girls Night Out. It’s a virtual party! Seriously. Girls Night Out is a lot of fun. It usually takes place on Tuesdays starting at 6 PM (Pacific) until… More information about this event is here: http://momitforward.com/rsvp-for-gno-discuss-emergency-preparedness

Last (but not least) I have the #editorchat happening every Wednesday from 8:30 PM – 10:00 PM (EST). The purpose of this chat is to provide editors and professional writers a chance to discuss ways they can help each other better. More information can be found by going to http://www.editorchat.net/

Re-post of 30 Day Power Blogger Challenge Announcement

30 Day PowerBlogger Challenge

Yes I know. I am participating in another challenge. I just can’t help myself. I am like one of those little kids who can’t say no to a dare (although I always said no to dares when I was little).
The culprit behind this challenge is none other than Connie Ragen Green. She’s @conniegreen on twitter for those of you following me on twitter.
So basically the objective is to post thirty 100 word blog posts between now and July 7th. This will be a bit of a challenge for me because I am just not that wordy. So what this means for you, my loyal readers is that you’ll see me post to my blog two times a day on the days that I write in my blog instead of just one. That is the only way that I see myself getting through this. Oh yeah, if you’re a blogger and you want to join me in my insanity, here’s the link with the rules:

I’ve learned something new today…

You learn something new everyday. I’ve learned that things stay in google’s cache for only a few days. I didn’t copy my blog posts soon enough apparently. When I looked back at the cache, my old blog posts were GONE!!! Oh the horror! So that means I have to try to remember what the heck I wrote in those posts originally or just start from scratch. I think I’ll just have to start from scratch. I will have to post the announcement about the blogging challenge again. That’s the only way for everything to make sense, since I’ll be doing things a little differently than I normally do. Stick around. At least you know my blog won’t be boring…
