As a small business owner, you may be tempted to bend your rules a little bit to get clients. That is not a good idea. People talk. If you do one thing for one client and then try to do something different for another client, people will notice. You don’t want to get a reputation for being flaky. Now will you lose some clients because of your policies? Perhaps. But that just means that that particular project wasn’t a good fit for you. That doesn’t mean you won’t get other clients. You will. There will be people that will be glad to abide by your rules. Just be patient and continue to stick to your guns. The people that decide they don’t want to do business the way you do are just helping you keep your calendar clear for the people that will follow the rules you have already set forth. Remember, you set these policies in your business for a reason. Be firm. Don’t back down just trying to get a client. You will wind up regretting it in the long run.
