Cross Blog Conversation with Connie Ragen Green re: using twitter to harvest new affiliates

I came across this blog post from one of my friends, Connie Ragen Green posted about people using twitter to harvest new affiliates. Instead of just leaving a comment, I decided to write my own blog post about the topic.

I honestly don’t see anything wrong with this. I wouldn’t let the first interaction I make with a potential affiliate be, hi, promote my product. That does seem kind of crass. Instead, I would develop a relationship with this person. Join their mailing list. Follow them on facebook. Buy their own products. This way you can see what they promote to their list and you can determine if your product is a good fit. Also always offer this person a review copy of the product. When people promote your product, they are putting their reputation on the line.
I personally would not object to someone that I had a relationship with asking me to promote their product. I would object if it were a complete and total stranger.

That’s my two cents on the issue. What do you think?

I just received a copy of this book by Dr. Marshall Goldsmith called MOJO Tweet by Dr. Marshall Goldsmith. Before I get into the book review, let me share a little information with you about Dr. Goldsmith.

Marshall Goldsmith, is America’s preeminent executive coach. He is among a select few consultants who have been asked to work with more than sixty CEOs. His clients have included many of the world’s leading corporations. Goldsmith has helped to implement leadership development processes that have impacted more than one million people around the world.

He has a Ph.D. from UCLA and is on the faculty of the executive education programs for Dartmouth College and the University of Michigan. The American Management Association recently named him as one of fifty great thinkers and business leaders of the past eighty years. I thought it was a very interesting book. It didn’t take me very long to read. Basically it’s full of snippets all about MOJO. It tells you what it is, how to get it, and what to do if you lose it. This is a must read for entrepreneurs because you definitely don’t want to lose your MOJO when you’re running a business. Networking is not a spectatator sport

Many people hear a speaker say, “Networking is a great way to get new clients.” They rush and join sites such as LinkedIn and twitter and then just sit there. They don’t add any new contacts, they don’t reach out to people from their past, they just sit there. Then after a few weeks they say, “That speaker was a load of crap. Networking doesn’t work.” I’ve got news for you. Networking is an active thing! It only works if you work it regularly. By “work it” I mean you have to be in touch with your network at all times. Let them know what you’re working on in your status updates. Offer to help with what they are working on.

Networking isn’t just something you do by going to an event and passing out business cards. Stay in touch with the people that you meet. Meet them for coffee or lunch if they are local. I can’t stress this enough. Networking is about action. No action means no results. Why are you still reading this post? Start reconnecting with some of your peers.

Why having an editorial calendar is helpful in blogging.

I have an editorial calendar for this blog. Basically my editorial calendar helps keep me focused. If I didn’t have my editorial calendar, my blog would seem quite disjointed because I’d be writing about just whatever came into my head. I don’t think that’s very useful. Another great reason to have an editorial calendar is because it helps prevent writer’s block. It’s easier to come up with a topic to write about when the topics are already predefined. If you’re not already using an editorial calendar, I challenge you to take some time, sit down and create a schedule that fits your lifestyle.

Okay now that all the festivities are over, it’s time to get back to work. With that being said, I’m posting my goals for this blog. I’d like to increase my RSS/email subscribers to 1000 by the end of the year. I’d also like to increase the number of comments on this blog. That’s all I’ve got so far.
