New thoughts about LinkedIn

Okay I used to think that on LinkedIn it was all about numbers. I thought that if you had a lot of connections, you could just build a relationship with each person, one contact at a time. Well I’m here to tell you that that is just unrealistic. If you build your LinkedIn profile with just one idea-volume, you will have missed out on the true power of LinkedIn. I still think it’s important to have a lot of connections on LinkedIn, but it’s better to be sure your number of contacts doesn’t grow too big too fast. You don’t want to be connected to so many people that you can’t even remember what your contacts do for a living. It won’t do you any good if you can’t recommend your contacts to anyone else in your network because you haven’t even been talking to them. Make sure that you keep your network down to a reasonable number so you can actually work your network.
