If you want comments…post content

Okay a blogging rant is approaching. Now I don’t profess to know that much about getting comments. It’s not exactly like I have the most comments in the world on this blog and I’m cool with that. However, I know some bloggers moan and groan about not getting comments, but then you go to their blog and they haven’t posted anything new in like a month. Well duh. If you don’t have any new content, what is there for me to comment on? I’m not saying that you have to post everyday, but if you post more, you will give me more stuff to comment on.

Virtual Assistants: What is PLR and How Can it Help you to Get More Clients?-Guest Post By Nicole Dean

Today you guys are fortunate enough to read a guest post by one of my buddies, Nicole Dean. This will be all about helping virtual assistants understand plr. Enjoy
***start guest post**
Here’s a question that I received today. I thought it was such a valuable question that I wanted to share my response.
Dear Nicole,
I hear you talking about PLR articles, but I’m a Virtual Assistant, not an Internet Marketer. I need clients, not content.
Why should I care?
Dear Virtual Assistant:
Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to respond to your great question.
PLR content can actually help you to get more clients. And, I’ll explain how.
As someone who hires and works with a lot of Virtual Assistants in my business, I’ll tell you that I hire oftentimes based upon the knowledge that person shows just as much as what they “say” they can do.
For instance, let’s compare two Virtual Assistants (hypothetically – these aren’t real people).
Susie and Tessa.
I go to Susie’s website and she’s got three pages – including contact, services, and pricing. I look around a little and discover that Susie specializes in videos and multimedia. I think “hmmm… interesting” and then leave.
Next, I find Tessa’s website. She’s got the same pages on her website as Susie – contact, services, and pricing. It looks to me as if she also specializes in videos and multimedia. That’s not what I’m looking for, so I’m about to leave when I notice that she has a blog. On her blog, she’s got articles about how I can use video in my business and how to also use video to get more traffic and make more money. I’m interested. She obviously knows her stuff. I contact her to find out how she can help me to get more traffic with my existing videos – and to brainstorm more videos that I can incorporate into my business on an ongoing basis.
Tessa got my business. Susie did not.
Why? Because Tessa did some things right.
She showed her knowledge.
She demonstrated that she understands marketing by having a blog.
She made me think about my business.
She seemed like a person who I’d like to work with.
How does this apply to PLR content? Easy.
Susie could have had my business if she had purchased some great quality PLR content and published it on her blog. Of course, as always, I would recommend that Susie use the content as a starting point only and then add her own ideas and examples into it to make it uniquely hers. But, the important thing is that she could have had an active blog offering great value to potential new customers that showcased her talent and made people desperate to hire her.
And, she could have done it for under $20.

Why People Think They Can Talk To Celebrities Any Old Way

I felt prompted to write this blog post because of two blog posts: This one: http://www.imjustsharing.com/why-is-everyone-busting-on-a-listers/ and this one: http://ruthlessblogs.com/2011/08/12/jennifer-hudson-explains-twitter-rant/.

Okay so why do people think they can talk about celebrities any old way? Pretty simple. They don’t think celebrities are listening to them. When I read the blog post about Jennifer Hudson, I was sad that she had to go through all of that. No one deserves to be treated rudely. However, it is pretty easy to see why that person felt like they could say that to her and she would not say anything back. Just looking at her twitter profile, you will see that she has 255,032 people following her but she only follows 232 people herself. That gives people the impression that she does not talk to a lot of people on twitter.

I’m not going to repost the whole exchange here, you can go to Jennifer Hudson’s twitter profile at http://www.twitter.com/iamjhud. People don’t expect to get any response from celebrities because celebrities usually don’t respond to regular people.

Now in answer to my friend Mitch’s post: People “bust” on A-Listers because a lot of them just don’t take the time to acknowledge people that are not also celebrities. Now I do understand that it is virtually impossible to address everyone on Twitter. Heck, I’m not even famous and I have a hard time keeping up with everyone that follows me. However, I always try to acknowledge people when they take the time to send me an @reply unless it is obvious that the message was a spam link (like the one I got this morning that was linked to some nude photos). Ignoring an @reply message is equivalent to walking past someone when they have looked you dead in the eye and said Hello. Okay I’m rambling here, but the point I’m trying to make is that people assume that celebrities are not paying attention to what is being said about or to them on social media sites so they just say whatever they want to. I’m glad Jennifer Hudson addressed this fan, I just hope that she takes as much time addressing the people that are trying to encourage her. I know they are there because I saw the tweets!

Happy Dance! My Blog Finally Has Some PageRank

Okay so even though I don’t live and die by PageRank, it’s nice to see my efforts have paid off. I think the Panda update helped my site out a lot. I went from having no PageRank to having a PageRank of 3! Whoo hoo! I don’t know exactly when the PageRank became 3 because I just checked it today. Yay! So basically all I did was focus on building backlinks, doing guest blog posts, posted my blog posts on Twitter and Facebook whenever I had a new post and blogged as consistently as possible.

Don’t burn bridges

Don't Burn Your Bridges
When you have a client where things don’t work the way you want them to, it is really tempting to wash your hands of the person and just say to heck with him or her. That is not a good idea unless they were just rude or a hassle to work with or just acted like a prima donna or something. Now I always check back in with past clients that I enjoyed working with to see if they need more work done. Doing this got me two paying assignments this week. So think twice before you put a past client into that “do not work with” file.
