Why Analytics Is Essential for Marketing Success

Studying the metrics of what you do is a very important part of having a successful business. Without looking at the numbers you really cannot know exactly why you experienced either success or failure. You can make assumptions, but when you don’t have to do that it’s better to use facts to ensure that your efforts aren’t a waste.

* If You Can’t Measure It Doesn’t Exist – When you set goals, they should be something that can be expressed in numbers: clicks, page views, sign-ups, buys and so forth. You can even assign values to conversions so that Google Analytics tells you what a particular conversion is worth to you without you having to leave the system.

My thoughts about the late, great Prince.

Okay I know it took me a while to get this post up. I wasn’t really sure what to say. So today I just sat down at the keyboard and I’m just going to post what comes into my brain. What can I say about Prince that hasn’t already been said? I don’t know. I do know that his music was an integral part of my childhood. My mom’s best friend’s daughter is a HUMONGOUS Prince fan. When would go to her house she would either be playing him, Madonna, or Janet, but mostly Prince. My parents were very strict so I would never be able to buy his stuff growing up. They’d have had a fit. But thanks to my friend Seveene, I always had somewhere to go to listen to his stuff. As the years went by, I always seemed to run into a Prince fanatic along the way. When I went off to college, it was my roommate. Before that it was a lady I went to church with. One thing I can say about his music was that it always made you FEEL something. Most of today’s music is missing that.

Freelance doesn’t mean free or cheap. #FreelanceIsntFree

I am pretty sure I have written about this topic already. However, the Freelancers Union has launched a campaign to pass legislation that will offer freelancers some of the same protection regular workers receive. If you visit their website, you can read more about the campaign. I myself have been approached by other business owners who want me to do work for free. This happened just last week! Here are some tips I have to avoid falling into this trap.

Insist on partial payment up front.

Karma Is Real (Or) There’s Still Good People In The World

Okay I must start off this post with some warning. This post will contain spiritual/New Age type of stuff. So if that type of stuff offends you, you may want to close that browser window now.

On Sunday I went to Walmart after work and the cashier didn’t ring up one of my items. I forgot to put it on the conveyor belt. I went back to the cashier and paid for my item. One of the ladies that was waiting to buy her stuff mentioned how honest that was and said that I’d have something good happen because of it. I never do good just to get good karma. I do good stuff just because it’s the right thing to do.

Fantastic Finds Friday-How To Start A Profitable Graphic Design Business

I will be the first to say that graphics are so not my thing. That’s why whenever I find a good graphic designer, I make sure to stay in touch with that person. I’m not alone. There are many people that are good at their primary business, but horrible at graphics. So if you’re both artistically inclined and good with computers, this is a great business for you to start. I did an interview earlier in the year with Terri Clay (you can read it by clicking on her name). I’m so glad to be able to share one of her products with you today about starting your own graphic design business. When you purchase this digital product, you will learn the following things:
