How To Stay Focused During Major Media Events

Anytime there is a major news story happening, it can be difficult to focus on business. School shootings, police brutality, and natural disasters tend to flood our timelines with negativity. This can make it hard to stay focused on growing your business. Here are some tricks to help you stay focused on your goals and not get sucked into reading story after story after story about something that will keep you wanting to hide under your covers for the rest of the day.

1. Step Away From The Internet

I know it seems counterproductive to step away from the computer, especially if there is a deadline looming. However, if you are feeling stifled or blocked because of all of the negativity, you may need to just take a moment to clear your mind.

2. Write It Down

Sometimes it helps to get things off your chest. If you keep a journal, take some time to write down whatever you’re thinking about what’s going on in the world.

3. Go Outside

Yes, you heard right. I suggested going out in the real world. Sometimes getting some fresh air can help your creativity.

Writer’s block can be extremely annoying. It can be tough not to read every single news story about a major event that is taking place. I’m not suggesting that you keep your head buried in the sand. It is good to know what’s going on around you. Just don’t let it cripple you.

  1. Hi, DeAnna, I agree that stepping away from the internet is a great idea, but we don’t necessarily have to leave the computer to do that. We can still work on non-internet based stuff, like writing ebooks, getting a bunch of posts ready to schedule on blogs, working on our affiliate marketing, plans and strategies for our business. We could also just not go onto the social media sites that are reporting the news in such negative ways. Staying off Facebook, for example, does me the world of good!

    Enjoy the journey!

  2. Great post. I step away from the computer and go read a book. Sometimes I leave the task on the computer and search for pretty pictures and funny videos as a break. It’s needed but it took me a long time to know that because I love working on the computer. Thank you DeAnna
